Arthritis and Osteoporosis: Better Understanding for Better Prevention and Care
Want to learn more about arthritis and osteoporosis? Look no further! Centre de santé Saint-Boniface is now accepting online registrations for two new courses.
The first course focuses on different types of arthritis. The first type of arthritis to be discussed is osteoarthritis, which affects more people than all other forms of arthritis combined. Osteoarthritis is caused by the progressive wear of cartilage that protects the joints, most often in the knees, hips, hands and lower back. This results in pain, swelling, stiffness and reduced range of motion.
You will also learn about gout, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis, which are forms of arthritis caused by the inflammation of the joint tissue. The course will focus on how to better live with these diseases.
In the second three-session course, you will learn about osteoporosis, a disease that primarily affects women and is characterized by bone loss and bone fragility. This course provides an overview of the disease and risk factors. You will learn about bone health, with a focus on fracture risk assessment and treatment options.
The second and third sessions focus on the importance of good nutrition and the role of physical activity in preventing osteoporosis. In fact, studies indicate that having an excessively sedentary lifestyle can increase our risk of osteoporosis. Exercises will be recommended to improve your balance and posture as well as activities that increase strength and endurance.
Even if you are not directly affected by arthritis or osteoporosis and just want to learn something new, you are invited to attend these courses!
