Reduced libido, erectile difficulties, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, depression, irritability… If you have these symptoms, you could be suffering from male menopause, better known as andropause.

Modern medicine has long known the causes and symptoms of menopause in women… it’s no secret. But what about men?

Andropause is a little known phenomenon. It is considered a taboo subject, which leads most men to suffer in silence. To further complicate matters, men are less likely than women to consult their doctor about health problems, especially when they concern their manhood.

Although there is a gradual decrease in testosterone associated with age, andropause is characterized by a marked decline in testosterone. This can be diagnosed by a simple blood test following a positive clinical evaluation. So let’s get to it! Let’s break down the taboos and talk about it!

Andropause can occur in men aged 45 and over. Unlike women who all go through varying degrees of menopause, one in five men over the age of 60 suffers from symptoms associated with andropause. And because these symptoms can be related to other diseases or aging in general, it sometimes takes a while before the problem is identified.

Modern medicine has only recently recognized the existence of andropause, making it even harder to discuss an issue that is often avoided altogether. Treatment is quite simple: an androgen or testosterone supplement is administered in the form of tablets, gel or injection, which can lead to a gradual return to well-being. However, this treatment is not for everyone: it is still contra-indicated in all prostate cancer patients, for example.

In short, if you are 45 or older, feeling more tired and irritable than usual, experiencing less sexual desire and problems with erections or suffering from depression, take the time to talk to your doctor or nurse practitioner. Having an open dialogue on male health and your prostate’s health is just as important as changing the oil in your car! Hormone therapy may help you regain your former vigour and energy. So don’t give up. Break the taboos. Your well-being depends on it.
