Anxiety is a reaction triggered by the anticipation of difficult events. It plays a very important role in human survival: the recognition of danger. It is our fire alarm.

We all feel anxious at some point in our lives. However, anxiety can become problematic when it becomes chronic or is triggered by minor events in everyday life. Anxious people tend to imagine catastrophes that are unlikely to happen but seem inevitable to them. It’s as if the fire alarm were ringing all day long, but there were never any fires. These anxious feelings hinder our work and daily activities. Some common symptoms of anxiety include: agitation, fatigue, concentration problems, irritability, insomnia and digestive problems.

Adolescence is a period of heightened susceptibility to anxiety. Young people are building an identity, thinking about the future and are increasingly aware of the world around them. These great changes, in addition to academic stress, can cause higher levels of anxiety.

Fortunately, there are ways to control anxiety and let it go. Centre de santé uses the cognitive behaviour approach to treat anxiety. This approach is based on the principle that thoughts affect our emotions, and emotions affect our behaviour. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) helps anxious individuals understand which thoughts are causing their anxiety and how to replace them with more realistic thoughts. As a result, their behaviour is less controlled by unrealistic worries and fears.

We also offer a range of services to support people living with anxiety, including relaxation and mindfulness programs. Participants learn to deal with their anxious situations and live in the moment.

There are many ways to overcome anxiety. If you feel overwhelmed by feelings of anxiety, consult a health care professional who will help you find solutions.
